On Vegemite

I grew up as a Marmite eater, and until arrival in Australia wouldn’t touch ‘that Kraft stuff’… Now, I wouldn’t say that I’ve converted, but living in Australia has conditioned me to accept Vegemite (on the basis that’s often what is provided).  In the UK, Marmite is definitely number 1: but it is weird runny, slightly translucent stuff, rather strong, and quite unlike what I am used to… so now I am searching ‘high and low’ for Vegemite.  When I arrived in Shetland, I discovered that it wasn’t available in the Coop, and I was forced to stoop to Marmite (sad face)… but the next day I visited Tesco, and found Vegemite (happy face!)…

The jar of Marmite was quickly donated to the hostel, and I have been happily eating my way through that jar of Vegemite ever since!
